For some historical background on this model: In 1967 an Alfa Romeo played a starring role in the movie, The Graduate, starring Dustin Hoffman. To honor this appearance, Alfa Romeo introduced the Spider Graduate in 1985, which would remain in production until 1990. The Alfa Romeo Graduate was built to similar specifications to the QV and SV, sharing the same transmission and engine. It featured manual windows, vinyl top, steel wheels, and vinyl seats. The Graduate had a base price of $14,000. It had made its debut a year earlier and was again equipped with the dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine displacing 119.7 cubic-inches and offering 115 horsepower. A five-speed manual gearbox was standard and there were disc brakes in both the front and the rear. Standard equipment included bronze tinted glass, courtesy lights with delay, dual power mirrors, hand-finished mahogany steering wheel, underhood lights, trunk lights, tachometer, and intermittent wipers. They rode on Michelin XVS tires and steel wheels. The body had an air dam, halogen headlamps, and a rear spoiler.
The Spider Veloce, also a convertible, sold for $17,000. It was mechanically identical to the Graduate but added luxury features such as leather seating, a digital clock, Campagnolo Daytona alloy wheels, and power windows.
The final Spider was the Quadrifoglio, which had a base price of $20,500. Quadrifoglio, which stood for 'Clover Leaf' (in honor of Alfa Romeo's racing legacy), came equipped with air conditioning, rear defogger, gearshift knob, adjustable steering column, leather steering wheel, and Pirelli P6 15-inch tires on alloy wheels.
