1970 Cadillac DeVille Convertible--SOLD (Ohio) - $0
This Caddy has been owned by the same family for over 35 years--always garaged and used as a seasonal driver. The interior dashboard is in excellent condition. Seat covers were added to the interior compartment. The door panels and carpet are original. The exterior was resprayed white and is presentable. There are a couple of paint blisters on the the lower panels. Mechanically strong, the car features a new tonneau cover (which needs some snaps added). The white convertible top is in good condition overall--there is some wear on the lower panel below the glass and above the deck.
The 1970 Cadillacs were popular, with 238,745 being built for the model year, a new divisional record and the first new record in two years. In keeping with Cadillac's policy of continuous improvement, a new rear axle design was introduced for 1970. The new axle was quieter, with improved durability and provided the most torque capacity of any car in the industry at the time. Maintenance was easier on the new axle, and interior spaciousness benefited from the lower drive line. Optional radios for 1970 included both AM and FM bands for maximum station availability. A new antenna was embedded in the windshield, which eliminated the exterior fender mast but created reception problems.
GM retired after 1970 the DeVille Convertible, which dated back to the 1940 Series 62 Convertible Coupe. Convertible sales had been declining for several years, and Cadillac decided to upgrade its convertible model for 1971 into the Fleetwood Eldorado line. The glamorous new convertible would continue to be made through 1976, when it became the last American convertible to be built for a few years. The 1970 model year established Cadillac as the top selling luxury car in America (again), and led the way into a decade that would see gas shortages, tougher safety standards, a new era of electronics in automobiles, Cadillac's first smaller luxury car, and a continuation of the traditional luxury, elegance, and value the Cadillac brand was known for.
