About This Car:
Incredible low-mileage, all original survivor, '78 Corvette is a 25th Silver Anniversary special edition survivor. Motorland had this car inspected by Ron Bunnell, a nationally recognized Corvette restorer and specialist review this car in May 2019 for its originality. Mr. Bunnell owns and operates a long-time Corvette restoration shop in New England and is a Master Judge for the National Corvette Restorer Society (NCRS). His report says:
"This vehicle, a 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition Corvette showed 13,337 miles on the odometer.
The engine verified to be the original with stamping code V0427CUT/ 18S426621.
The complete engine compartment is virtually untouched with labels, decals, hoses, clamps, and miscellaneous parts all in tack the way it was right from the factory.
The paint blackout and over spray effects under the hood are 100% original and the way it would be expected to see.
The trim tag shows 72C which relates to Red/Cloth and the paint code shows 13U07 which relates to Silver Anniversary color combo, both are correct and in excellent condition.
The interior is complete with a couple minor marks in the trim, but absolutely no wear on the seats, door panels, or carpet.
The exterior paint is typical 70’s GM production paintwork; completely untouched or undisturbed showing almost no signs of road wear or chips.
The chassis shows to be very original with the evidence of oil leakage, which is very common. The front brake calipers and rubber hoses have been replaced for service, as was the starter, other than these items all the rest of the chassis and suspension is untouched, right down to the dated rear mufflers. Even the shocks are original right to having the correct part numbers and dates.
Overall, this 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette is an Absolute Survivor to the highest level. I am sure it would be welcomed at any N.C.R.S. (National Corvette Restorers Society) and Bloomington Gold Judging event with very high scores as a result."
About the Silver Anniversary Edition History and Specifications:
To celebrate the first quarter century of Corvettes, a completely re-designed body was rolled out with new “fastback” styling. Every Corvette this year came with special 25th anniversary badging. Special “Anniversary Editions” included a unique two-tone paint job in Charcoal Silver and Silver Metallic. Production of the anniversary edition was not limited and 15,283 Corvettes were eventually sold with this paint.
1978 Corvettes had a new fastback roofline and rear window. These changes enhanced the Corvette’s sleek silhouette. The new and improved rear window not only allows for a cleaner styling profile; it also improves visibility for the driver and adds extra luggage space. Inside, there is also room for storage of the removable roof panels. A larger, plastic-lined fuel tank is also a new addition to the ’78 Vette. Capacity has been boosted from 17 to 24 gallons. The instrument panel has also been restyled and features face-mounted, round, easy to read instruments.
Corvette performance has been improved with a dual snorkel air cleaner and new low-restriction exhaust system and mufflers on the available L82 350 Cu. In. V8 engine. The transverse rear leaf spring in the independent rear suspension has been widened to reduce stress. Two new transmissions were introduced in the 1978 Corvette. A new Four-Speed manual transmission is standard. A new automatic transmission is available for the L82 350 Cu. In. V8 engine.
