1948 Ford F5 Fire Truck--SOLD (New York) - $0

Amazing all original 1948 Ford F5 Pumper Truck with just 5600 original miles. Historically significant vehicle. The truck was a gift to the Town of Kennebunkport, longtime summer home of President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush and their family. The Great Fire of 1947 devastated the popular oceanfront village of Goose Rocks, just a few miles from the President's home at Walker's Point, as well as ravaged other large sections of the state. The small towns of this rural state were ill-equipped to deal with the ravages of the mega firestorm that October. Milk trucks were used when there was not enough fire equipment to battle the big blazes. This truck served the Maine seaside town with distinction over many years of service. A long time volunteer firefighter for the Town of Kennebunkport reports he believes that the tanks for these trucks were built at Bath Iron Works, where ships are built for the US Navy. Firefighters would go tailboarding by jumping on the back of the truck and holding on as it sped off to a call. The hose bed is in strong solid condition, remarkable given how exposed it was over the years. Inside, the interior is a true time capsule--remarkably original and untouched over six decades. There's still the original extra Ford tag in the glove box with a spare key the firefighters kept tied to a hinge as they were always losing them. The throttle for to engage the PTO water pump sits next to the emergency brake. The Ford bakelite plastic in the enter of the dash is in perfect condition and the firehouse "cheat sheet" painted on the dash adds to the authenticity, though it is easily removed. New tires installed on truck August 2014. A recent tune up complimented the exceptional strong mechanicals on the truck. The length between the back of cab to back of rear tires 80". The length between back of cab to end of rear bumper 115" Would make an amazing promotional vehicle or addition to any fire truck collection!
