1978 Lincoln Continental Jubilee--SOLD (Norway) - $0
1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition. Original Nebraska car with 51000 miles.
Lincoln celebrating its 60th anniversary in 1978 with a very special Diamond Jubilee edition of the prestigious Mark V coupe. The Mark V was the biggest thing on wheels in 1978, and this survivor is in remarkably well-preserved condition, obviously having been purchased as something special and maintained as a collector's piece for the years that followed-and this was entirely Lincoln's plan. The paint is holding up well, although you should bear in mind that it's vintage 1978 mass-production enamel, so while it's in good shape, it has a softer shine that is a contrast to the clearcoats we use today. The acres of sheetmetal remain in great condition with the razor-sharp creases that define the Mark V still crisply rendered and showing no signs of accident damage.
Pillow-tufted seats were the height of plush luxury in 1978, and the over-the-top look of everything is a big part of this car's appeal; it's pure 1970s wild. It's in very well-preserved condition with minimal wear on the seats and no splits or tears, and even the embroidered inserts on the seat backs are crisp and bright, showing no UV damage. Everything was standard equipment, so you get power seats, windows, and locks, a tilt wheel, cruise control, and A/C, making this a no-compromises collector piece. A center console and bucket seats are a very unusual option, although the shifter remained firmly planted on the side of the steering column in traditional Lincoln fashion. The carpets, dash, and headliner are very nice, and when you're inside, there's a definite isolation chamber feeling thanks to thick door seals and impressive sound control materials. The trunk is still massive and comes complete with a spare and jack assembly still in the original bag. The car features a Ford CB-radio unit in the center console and a moonroof.
The 460 cubic inch V8 provides effortless power not only to move all that steel, but to power the accessories without strain. With a new carburetor, it starts quickly and runs superbly with a gentle muscular hum from the stock dual exhaust system. The original engine bay is tidy and clean and shows evidence of a lifetime of care, and the undercarriage is solid and ready to enjoy. The C6 3-speed automatic clicks through the gears unobtrusively, and with 2.73 gears out back, it just loafs along on the highway. Gold-toned alloy wheels complete the package and wear appropriate whitewall radials.
