The award is an opportunity for high-achieving, motivated high school students from immigrant families in Portland, Maine to pursue academic and personal interests, strengthen college applications, and develop valuable leadership skills thorough a unique summer program experience. Award in memory of John Williams Burgess, who shared a passion for social justice and active citizenship with his mother. John graduated from the University of Southern Maine Summa Cum Laude.
