1989 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ70--SOLD (California) - $0
1989 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ70 Diesel For Sale or Trade
This 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ70 4WD Diesel was part of a series not sold in North America, but popular in Latin America and other parts of the world. This particularly BJ70 was owned by the same family in Central America from new. It features its original 3BII 4-cylinder diesel engine and 4-speed transmission. While the odometer shows 260,000 miles (421,000km), the original motor was rebuilt in January 2015, about 8000 miles ago. The truck has been resprayed to match the original white color with green accent decals added, and the interior has been refurbished with new gray vinyl upholstery on the seats and door panels. New Firestones are fitted on black 15″ wheels, and the truck just received an oil change with new fuel and oil filters.
The truck was bought new by a physician in Nicaragua in 1990 and later gave it to his son, a vet in the capital city of Managua. While rarely seen in the United States, parts are easily available. The BJ70 sold well in developing nations, where its smaller size and rugged dependability attracted legions of loyal enthusiasts who drove them extensively. The BJ70 came stock with a rigid leaf suspension system and solid front and rear differentials. This BJ70 was brought to the United States in 2015.
Previous bodywork is noted on the lower quarters which was done to a good standard before the repaint. A few scratches can be seen on the body. Doors are said to open and shut crisply, and all windows operate as they should. The door locks were changed to a different key set due to theft prevention in Nicaragua, and the badges are riveted to the body for the same reason. The undercarriage, as you can see in the photos, is clean. Body panels appear straight and panel gaps are aligned and uniform throughout. Bumpers, exterior rubber, and black and chrome trim are in very good condition.
On the inside, the seats have been reupholstered in gray vinyl and matching new door panels installed. The vinyl floors, dash, and headliner are all in good condition. There's an aftermarket Kenwood Radio/ CD sound system. This is a base model BJ70 with factory equipped A/C and no power steering or heater option, though heating systems are available from many third-party vendors. Our Motorland Service Center can install a heater. The AC blows ice cold. All the dashboard guages, A/C, and manual windows work correctly, and the windshield washers were never replaced after the repaint.
The truck’s rear folding seats are original, though the rear door panels were replaced when the interior was refurbished, both of which show very little signs of wear. Typical rust zones around the door hinges, jambs, and drip rails look free of any major corrosion.
The original 3BII 4-cylinder non-turbo diesel engine runs very strong and starts up immediately after a 5-8 second glow cycle. The 4-speed manual transmission is reported to shift smoothly through all gears, and the 4WD system shifts easily from 2WD to both Hi/Lo 4WD.
We have copies of the restoration receipts for the engine rebuild and the body and interior work, completed in 2015 (including notarized translation documents). We also have copies of the US Customs documents when the BJ70 was imported to the USA in 2015.
